Why Your Child Should Choose Their Own Potty Training Seat
When it comes to potty training your son or daughter, it isn't always going to be easy. Some children may take naturally to training or train themselves with a little help from parents. However, most others have a bit more difficulty. One thing that can help is allowing your child to choose their own potty training seat before you undertake this process. A child is more likely to want to use a potty chair that they chose themselves. There are many different kinds of potty seats out there these days.
Some potty chairs sit on the floor, and have a king or princess theme. They look like royal thrones and some of them may even play music or light up. If your child is imaginative and loves to pretend, a novelty potty chair like this can be a great choice. There are simpler chairs that feature beloved cartoon characters or are a solid color. You will also find seats that fit on top of the adult toilet so the child can use it. These seats usually have handles for your child to grasp so they don't worry about falling off or in the big potty.
While not every child is going to jump for joy over this type of seat, it sure is convenient for parents because instead of dumping waste from a traditional potty chair and cleaning it regularly all you will need to do is flush. This is something you can teach your child to do, although some may be wary about flushing at first. One advantage of the on-the-toilet potty seats is that there is no transition from a toddler floor standing potty to the big one. The child simply removes the seat when they are big enough to do so. Many seats of this type have splash guards so boys can first learn to urinate while sitting.
Besides allowing your child to select the potty training seat they prefer, you can let them select underwear also. This may help boost their motivation even if they are not ready for underwear. Another helpful hint is never force a child to sit on the potty. Lead them gently and if they throw tantrums over potty training, they are likely not ready. You might also want to speak to your child's pediatrician if you have questions about potty training.
